Key Largo
is part of the Florida Keys, which is located in Monroe County. There are five incorporated cities in the Florida Keys: Key West (the county seat,) Key Colony Beach, Layton, Islamorada and Marathon, as well as the unincorporated areas of Ocean Reef, Key Largo, Tavernier and Big Pine Key/Lower Keys. Tourism is vital to Key Largo’s economy. In 2005, the island saw a slight decrease in the number of cruise ships stopping at Key West’s port and in the number of people arriving by car. However, the Key West International Airport reported an increase in the number of passengers disembarking on the island. The main industries on Key Largo are: trade, transportation & utilities, leisure & hospitality, professional & business services, financial services, construction, other services, health & education, and public administration.
